A Gordon County Christmas

Christmas Parade - FFA Float.jpg

There’s nothing quite like a small-town Christmas Parade. It’s not just a way to celebrate a holiday, it’s a happening…a community event that celebrates the holiday, provides a sense of community, and celebrates a way of life much different from the big cities.

After a COVID-19 break, the Calhoun Christmas Parade will return Thursday, December 9th at 7pm. The parade will begin at the intersection of Wall Street and Line Street, and traveling south on Wall Street, ending at the intersection of Wall Street and Piedmont Street.

The 2021 parade theme will be “The Miracle on Wall Street” and float participants are encouraged to follow the theme with float designs that depict the individual groups interpretation of what a Christmas miracle would be like in Calhoun.

The parade has drawn huge crowds since its inception and has become the largest annual single night gathering in Gordon County. Thousands attend or participate in the downtown Calhoun area including all local school bands.

For the perfect parade experience, come to town a bit early to have dinner at Thatcher’s Barbeque & Grille. Thatcher’s wood-fired smokehouse goodies and array of sides and delicious homemade desserts is just what you need before the parade. And the locals will tell you… be sure to try the “shovels” – you won’t be able to shovel the food in fast enough!

Pete’s stocks over 400 guitars sells drums, banjos, mandolins, violins, pro audio, and school band instruments. They also offer lessons on all instruments. Before (or after) the parade, browse Pete’s Music City and give the gift of music.

And, for something to snack on before (during, and after) the parade, visit the Calhoun Coffee Company. A family owned/operated coffee shop located in the heart of downtown Calhoun, the Calhoun Coffee Company offers a wide selection of coffee, specialty coffee drinks, and baked goods. A kid favorite is the edible cookie dough (and it’s a hit with “older kids” as well). With their menu of coffees, pastries, sandwiches, and salads, it’s the perfect stop on your parade day!
