Located within the award-winning resort, Chateau Elan, Versaille resembles a modern version of an old French rail station. It offers guests a gourmet buffet as well as a set menu featuring regional favorites and chargrilled steaks—be sure to try the truffled mac n’ cheese. Stylish Marc Restaurant & Bar is another option within the chateau. Our suggested way to enjoy: arrive 30 minutes prior to sunset, order a St. Germain Sangria and some small bites {don’t miss the tempura fried pickled okra}, grab a table by the giant windows and enjoy the vineyard glow as the sun sets. Head into town for a meal in the heart of downtown Braselton at Cotton Calf Kitchen for dry-aged steaks cooked to perfection and bourbon-glazed thick-cut bacon. Enjoy your meal with a show from the patio overlooking the Town Green, or from the chef’s table, as you watch the energy and perfection taking place in the kitchen.
French Country Meets Georgia Mountains
We were sitting around talking with friends after dinner one night when our buddy, John shared with us a video about the actual number of hours that are spent with those you love versus with the electronics we hold so dear. It was shocking, and we all decided it was time to make a change. We would certainly continue our monthly supper club, but we needed to take it next level with a weekend away together. After a little research and viewing some epic pictures we realized how close we were to quaint Braselton, Georgia and the luxurious Chateau Elan winery, and the trip was immediately scheduled.
Upon our arrival to the Chateau we went straight to the wine tour. The grounds were lovely, the history fascinating, and our guide was so charismatic and knowledgeable that she really made us feel like true sommeliers by the time we were done. The Scarlet Reserve was my favorite and we all ended up with a bottle or two that we vowed to drink together when we were back home again. Their onsite restaurant, Marc, provides a beautiful venue overlooking the vineyards where we cheers-ed each evening before discovering the rest of the Braselton foodie scene.
A Cotton Gin and a BrewPub
In the words of Braselton Brewing owner, “We were convinced that the brewpub experience, with fresh craft beer paired with simple but tasty food was what our town of Braselton needed. We found that the brewpub experience is a great way to relax and socialize with old and new friends alike.” We agree, Chip and Robin, thank you!
Braselton Brewing was the perfect venue to bring our group together as we sat on the patio, sun on our faces, and local brews in hand. It’s a converted cotton gin turned brewery. How charming is that? It’s brand new and done right. The enthusiasm for brewing is evident in everything they do. Not to mention the food is remarkably good! I had the House Mac and Cheese, think beer cheese, applewood bacon, and pico de gallo. Yum. We felt at ease to sit, talk, and laugh in the industrial chic atmosphere as the friendly bartender filled our glasses and our itinerary with the low down on where else we needed to visit in Braselton. Next time we will bring our four-legged friends with us, as it seemed like all the locals had their pup at their side.
Braselton for the Foodies
There really is nothing better than leisurely eating your way through a weekend with friends, right? In between meals there was antiquing, exploring the historic downtown, and just enjoying Chateau Elan, but we focused on some delicious food experiences. We enjoyed live music one evening at Soprano’s Grill and were impressed with their large serving sizes and quality food. Another evening we got dressed up for Cotton Calf, which is an amazing steakhouse with an open kitchen and rustic industrial vibe. All their steaks are dry-aged, and we enjoyed passing sides around the table so we could try them all. Not to mention that I fell in love with my Sweat Heat Margarita with muddled jalapeno and poblano peppers, blackberries, fresh lemon and lime juice.
Houndstooth Grill and Bar is a great venue with good prices and great specials throughout the week. Everyone was pleased with their orders, but my hand-battered, lightly fried, and perfectly flakey grouper fingers won the prize for hitting the spot. Another spot not to miss is Local Station, located in a trendy area of Braselton near some cute antique stores. It’s a small venue that makes you feel like you got in on a great secret. The seafood dip was to die for, and everyone loved their various entrees and drinks. Thanks for feeding our bellies and our souls Braselton, we’ll certainly be back for more.
