Hall of Fame Barbeque At Dobbs
The oldest restaurant in Dothan, in continuous operation since 1948, is one of the charter members of the Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame. Governor Robert Bentley in recognizing the inductees said, “Those being recognized are significant members of their communities…” The restaurant is easy to find – follow the appetizing smell of smoked meat to the red neon sign proclaiming “Famous Bar-B-Q.”
Good luck finding a parking spot! Locals and tourists alike patiently wait for plates of barbecue or ribs with tangy sauce, baked beans, camp stew and tall glasses of sweet tea. Save room for the famous homemade strawberry shortcake. If you are lucky, Mr. Dobbs, now 81, will stop by your table and show you a magic trick or the wooden pendulum he controls with his voice and hands. And, he’ll be able to show you the new plaque proclaiming Dobbs as a Hall-of-Famer.

Chef’s delight with Every Bite
KBC Butcher Block is the brainchild of Dothan native Kelsey Barnard Clark. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, and then perfecting her skills in Manhattan’s top restaurants, Ms. Clark finally came home to Dothan to set up shop. Driven by a passion for fresh, wholesome food, her two KBC locations (560 Westgate Parkway and 151 N. Foster Street), reflect the high standards of the hometown chef. With an open kitchen plan, deli-style meals, seating inside and out, and a casual atmosphere, the restaurants have become regular stops for locals.
The chef aims to please as all food is prepared in-house, with fresh takes on locally sourced ingredients. Free range and organic chicken, grass-fed beef, and fresh seafood are standards. A crowd-pleasing favorite is the smoked beef brisket sandwich. Seasonal salads, featuring ingredients such as Brussel sprouts and apples make for a refreshing change of pace. Daily staples include pimento cheese, marinated vinegar slaw, black-eyed pea hummus, and ground mustard chicken salad. Dessert items include fresh macarons and other baked confections. Stop by either location for a culinary treat.
