The Contemporary Arts Museum
The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston is a non-collecting institution dedicated to presenting the best and most exciting international, national and regional art of the last 40 years. A little jewel in Houston, a city where one gets used to everything being "Texas Size", this small museum is an oasis of intimate size that exhibits the most modern art movements in the Southwest US. Often daring and unorthodox, the artistic offer challenges the viewer to experience new currents in art, the unexpected, the non-status quo. The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston was founded in 1948 by a group of seven Houston citizens to present new art and to document its role in modern life through exhibitions, lectures and other activities. A stop at the Museum Shop is a must. Discover an impressive assortment of artist and designer-made items, books, accessories and educational toys for kids.
Dinosaurs Take Over!
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is one of the nation’s most heavily-attended museums, with diverse and extraordinary offerings and four floors of exhibit halls. From a towering animatronic Brachiosaurus to one of the best preserved and most complete skeletons of a Tyrannosaurus Rex ever unearthed, 50 dinosaurs are invading the Houston Museum District. A new hall represents the largest expansion in the Houston Museum of Natural Science history and marks a major addition in the District. The 30,000-square-foot hall stretches the length of a football field and is being touted as one of the most dynamic collections in the world. Instead of stagnant dinosaurs lined up in rows, the creatures at HMNS will be in action-chasing, eating and doing everything they can to survive. The museum's team of paleontologists have spent years organizing the right collection and researching how the dinosaurs and other beasts would have interacted with one another when they roamed Earth millions of years ago.
