Outdoor Adventure

There’s nothing like wiggling your toes in the sand or splashing in the ocean waves to signal the start of summer living. With its 17 miles of white sandy beaches, the New Smyrna Beach Area has you covered. Whether you choose to visit the Flagler Avenue beach, after exploring the neighborhood’s restaurants and shops, or opt for a more natural setting at Canaveral National Seashore, you’re sure to find a place to lay out your towel and take in the ocean air.

If getting out on the water is more your thing, check out one of the many boat and paddleboard rental shops in the area. At RiverWitch Kayak Rentals and Tours, sign up for a guided kayak tour, where you’ll be amazed at the wildlife as you paddle through the scenic landscape of this area’s diverse ecosystem. From pink spoonbills and egrets to underwater wonders, like manatees and dolphins, you’re guaranteed to make some lasting memories on this outing.

For those seeking a bit more of a thrill, try a surfing lesson with Nichols Surf Shop. Learn to catch a wave during a 2-hour class, in which you’ll learn safety guidelines, techniques, and general water knowledge. And don’t worry—you’ll start on land, so you won’t end up all wet before you’re ready!

Indoor Activities

Sometimes, the weather doesn’t play along with your outdoor plans. Or, perhaps you’re in the mood for activities out of the sun. No matter the reason, the New Smyrna Beach Area offers plenty of indoor fun for all ages.

Check out the variety of art studios and shops along Canal Street. Whether you’re just window shopping or looking for a unique piece for your home, you’ll find several galleries, such as Studio Vezza Maggiore, Wild Oats & Billy Goats, and The Hub on Canal, where you can peruse artisan wares and fine art, and sometimes even meet the artists.

To learn about the history of this fascinating region, stop at the New Smyrna Museum of History. The history of the Native Americans who lived in this area, the pioneers who settled here, the impact of the railroad on development, and the history of East Coast surfing are just some of the exhibits you’ll find. The museum also features activities for kids as well as guided tours for all ages.

Shopping is always a fun rainy day activity, and the New Smyrna Beach Area offers plenty of options. The shops at the Pavilion at Port Orange offer something for everyone, from clothing and shoes to home goods, to several beauty care services.
