Paddling in Cramerton
Makes a Memorable Day

Kayaking-South-Fork-River.jpg

Once a thriving mill town, Cramerton, NC, nestled on the banks of the South Fork of the Catawba River, has reinvented itself using its natural assets to create a great place for people to get outside and enjoy nature.

What makes this town unique is an island and a sharp bend created by the river as it flows south. These two natural assets have helped the town of Cramerton to create this outdoor playground.

Meet us in Cramerton for a day of outdoor fun!

Goat Island Park

Visitors can find Goat Island in the heart of town and can access it via a beautiful footbridge where you will most likely see paddlers below. The entire island has been transformed into this park and its natural elements have been preserved for the enjoyment of everyone.

Features include two canoe/kayak landings so paddlers can access the water on either side of the river, and an observation pier with rocking chairs for those who prefer to watch. Restrooms are located at the entrance next to the bridge.

On the island are two covered picnic shelters, a natural tree-house-style playground, ADA accessible greenway, walking trails, and a fitness pavilion. An 18-hole disc golf course, two ping-pong tables and several corn-hole boards are also available, however you will need to bring your own accoutrements to play.

Rent a kayak and paddle the river
While you are here, make some time to paddle. Kayaks are available by making reservations in advance with the Floating Goat by texting to 704-734-8599, for a flat rate of $20/day. Paddle for an hour, or all day.

Explore the river
Go left, up the river, and you will eventually come to the dam at McAdenville. Go right and you will head around a sharp turn and under an old trestle bridge.

Make time for Ice Cream
After your day of fun, make some time for ice cream at Floyd and Blackie’s, now open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. In addition to ice cream they also offer coffee and other specialty beverages, desserts, and breakfast sandwiches.

Dining

For those who prefer being served, just look up the hill from Goat Island and you will see Mayworth’s Public House, a local favorite and Doffer’s Canteen serving Tex-Mex.
